Privacy

At Colonial First State Global Asset Management, the privacy of your personal information is important to us.  Our definition of personal information is consistent with Australia's National Privacy Policy which defines Personal Information as information or opinion that allows others to identify you. It includes your name, age, gender, contact details, as well as your health and financial information.

 How is your personal information dealt with?

In the course of doing business we outsource certain tasks to third party suppliers. In these circumstances we may disclose your personal information to third parties including mailing houses, information technology support and email suppliers. From time to time we also seek expert help to improve our systems, products and services. These third parties are bound by confidentiality agreements when handling your personal information. In addition, your personal information will not be shared with third parties, other than of this kind, without your consent.

Your personal information may also be used by us to administer, monitor and evaluate products and services, gather, aggregate and report statistical information, assist you with any queries and take measures to detect and prevent fraud and other illegal activity. We may also be allowed or obliged to disclose information by law and to report on prudential or risk management matters to regulators and our related bodies.
If you use a financial adviser, details of your investments may be provided to that person.

Accuracy of your personal information

We aim to ensure that the personal information we retain about you is accurate, complete and up-to-date. You will be taken to agree to the use, collection and disclosure of your personal information when you make an investment in the fund. If you provide us with incomplete or inaccurate information, we may not be able to provide you with the products or services you are seeking.

Online services

For statistical purposes we collect information on web site activity (such as the number of users who visit our web site, the date and time of visits, the number of pages viewed, navigation patterns, what country and what systems users have used to access the site and, when entering our web site from another web site, the address of that web site) through the use of 'cookies'. This information on its own does not identify an individual but it does provide us with statistics that can be used to analyse and improve our web site. Corporate governance

 As a major institutional investor and shareholder, Colonial First State Global Asset Management believes in the benefits and importance of sound corporate governance. Colonial First State Global Asset Management believes well-executed corporate governance to be vital to the well-being of corporations, the efficient operations of financial markets and the realisation of fair value of entities. Colonial First State Global Asset Management has adopted a comprehensive corporate governance policy that describes how we vote on various issues.  While we will exercise every vote in accordance with that policy, from time to time exceptions to the policy may occur in specific circumstances. At all times, the key criteria for how we vote is what we consider to be the best interests of our clients. As part of the Commonwealth Bank Group, Colonial First State Global Asset Management observes all current best practice recommendations set by the ASX Corporate Governance Council.

Guidelines and principles for engagement on governance, environment and social issues  

Our existing corporate governance guidelines have been updated to include the consideration of environmental and social factors in how we engage with companies. The guidelines and principles cover, amongst other things:

  • our proxy voting policy and procedures, and how we will vote issues such as director/board appointments, remuneration and incentive schemes
  • how we will engage on environmental, social and governance issues, and
  • how we will report to our clients on engagement issues.
