    Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust July 2016 client note

    This is the second semi-annual update on the Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc (“The Trust” or “Scottish Oriental”), managed by the First State Stewart Asia team, an independent investment management team within First State Investments.

    Having focused on Scottish Oriental’s country weightings in our previous update, we are now providing some colour on how the Trust is positioned by sector.




    About the trust

    The Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc is incorporated in Scotland with registered no. SC156108 and is registered as an investment company under section 833 of the Companies Act.

    The investment objective of the Trust is to achieve long-term capital growth by investing mainly in smaller Asian quoted companies with market capitalisations under US$1,500m, or the equivalent thereof, at the time of investment. Asia is deemed to include the Indian subcontinent but excludes Japan and Australasia.

    Scottish Oriental is managed by First State Stewart Asia which is part of the international investment management division of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), one of Australia's largest financial institutions.
