This is the first in what will be a series of semi-annual updates on the Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc (“The Trust” or “Scottish Oriental”). Our aim is to provide a general update on our current thoughts, views and insights on existing holdings and changes to the portfolio over the period.
In this update we provide our views on the broader opportunities presented in the Greater China, India, South East Asia and South Korean regions, as well as specific notes on key holdings in these markets.
About the trust
The Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc is incorporated in Scotland with registered no. SC156108 and is registered as an investment company under section 833 of the Companies Act.
The investment objective of the Trust is to achieve long-term capital growth by investing mainly in smaller Asian quoted companies with market capitalisations under US$1,500m, or the equivalent thereof, at the time of investment. Asia is deemed to include the Indian subcontinent but excludes Japan and Australasia.
Scottish Oriental is managed by First State Stewart Asia which is part of the international investment management division of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), one of Australia's largest financial institutions.
